Simpang Renggam fatal crash: Transport Minister calls for probe to be expedited

PUTRAJAYA: Appropriate legal action must be taken against the driver responsible for the fatal crash in Simpang Renggam, Johor, which claimed five lives, including four members of the same family, on Monday (June 1), said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He urged the police to expedite the investigation to ensure that the investigation paper can be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers as soon as possible.

"Such driving is highly irresponsible and completely unacceptable,” he said in the statement on Tuesday (June 2)

Loke also stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility among all road users.

"A driving licence is not a licence to drive recklessly and cause tragedy to innocent people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Loke extended his condolences to the victims’ families and described the tragedy as something that should never have happened.

On Monday, police confirmed that four people, including a 10-year-old girl, were killed in an accident involving five vehicles at Jalan Johor Bahru-Ayer Hitam in Simpang Renggam.

Following the fatal crash, a 19-year-old male has been remanded for two days starting today to assist investigations. — Bernama
