PAS' Ahmad Samsuri submits resignation as Perikatan treasurer


KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (pic) announced his resignation from his position as the Perikatan Nasional treasure on Wednesday (Dec 11), reports Sinar Harian.

The Malay language daily said that, according to PAS' Harakahdaily portal, the announcement of his resignation was made through a brief statement to the Islamist party's central leadership.

In the statement, the PAS vice-president said that he had submitted his resignation letter to the Perikatan leadership.

"Assalamualaikum to all friends, I wish to inform everyone that I, Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, have sent my resignation letter as the Perikatan treasurer today, Wednesday (Dec 11). Thank you," he said in a brief message to Harakahdaily.

Sinar Harian reported that Ahmad Samsuri's decision had been described as surprising, as he is regarded as one of the key figures in PAS, which is a Perikatan component party.

Born in Jerteh, Besut, he is also known as a high-profile leader within PAS.

So far, no official statement has been released by the Perikatan leadership on the matter, although one is expected to be issued soon.

The reason for his resignation has also not been officially disclosed by Ahmad Samsuri.

Sinar Harian said it will seek further clarification from him on the matter.
