Bersatu takes serious view of PAS chief Hadi's statement on reviewing mutual ties

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu takes a serious view of the statement from PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang on the relationship and cooperation between the two parties.

Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said all matters on Perikatan Nasional, which both parties are part of, should be examined comprehensively in the spirit of comradeship, mutual understanding and shared responsibility to strengthen the coalition's unity.

"We will study all issues raised and discuss them in depth during the coming Bersatu political bureau and supreme council meetings," he said in a statement on Friday (May 22).

Earlier on Friday, Abdul Hadi said PAS would review its relationship with Bersatu following disagreements within the coalition.

According to Sinar Harian, the PAS president said issues being examined included Bersatu's rejection of efforts to strengthen the coalition by blocking the inclusion of Malay-Muslim parties and non-extremist non-Muslim parties.

"Matters like this will be studied and examined one by one to determine our next course of action. Elections come with gains and losses and involve the question of support.

"If it affects Perikatan in elections, it means we are not acting as we should," he was reported as saying at a press conference at his residence in Rusila in Marang, Terengganu.
