PETALING JAYA: A car driver died at the scene after the vehicle lost control and crashed into a Light Rapid Transit (LRT) pillar here on Thursday (Dec 12) morning, resulting in a fire.

Petaling Jaya Deputy OCPD Supt M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly told Malay language daily Sinar Harian that the incident occurred at 6.20am on the Federal Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur.

He said preliminary investigations suggest that the car lost control, veered off course, and collided with the LRT pillar, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

"The victim, who was the driver of the vehicle, was completely burned and confirmed dead at the scene.

"The victim was taken to the Forensic Unit at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), and the victim's identity has yet to be established," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987.

Furthermore, those who have dashboard camera recordings of the incident are also urged to come forward to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.

"The public can also contact the investigating officer, Insp Muhammad Hisyam Azih directly at 017-737 8704 or reach out to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters (IPD) at 03-7966 2222," he added.
