KUALA LUMPUR: Only one lawmaker voiced disagreement with the decision on the Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah, and Tubir Selatan sovereignty issue in 2018, according to Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muda-Muar).
The MP made this point while debating the Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah, and Tubir Selatan Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report at the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Dec 12).
According to the then Cabinet meeting report, Syed Saddiq noted that the leader expressed his disagreement only after the meeting.
"This highlights a clear difference in decisions made in Cabinet and discussions held on the sidelines," he said.
He emphasized that if Cabinet members felt they lacked sufficient information, it was their responsibility to request a delay in presenting the matter, a step that was evidently not taken.
"They can ask if Tun can postpone and present the matter on another day. Did anyone stand up? None," he said.
Syed Saddiq also expressed concern over the silence from Cabinet members and questioned whether Malaysians did not voice their concerns.
He raised this issue to underline the potential repercussions for future leaders like Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or anyone else.
"If negligence can be criminalised, it could lead to the review of every government decision in the future. Eventually, this can potentially lead to political instability, a cycle of revenge, and the downfall of Malaysia with everyone ending up in prison."
He also called for a halt to this approach to ensure political stability and prevent revenge politics.
