Saifuddin also claims Dr M acted alone in Batu Puteh decision

PUTRAJAYA: A decision on the Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah and Tubir Selatan sovereignty issue, was made prior to the Cabinet meeting in May, 2018.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic) said it was in line with the chronology stated in Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report.

"We should follow RCI report which stated the decision was made before the Cabinet meeting," he told a press conference after attending the Home Ministry monthly assembly on Thursday (Dec 12).

Saifuddin said the people should follow the facts stated in the RCI report.

"It seems like he (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) is grasping for straws by attempting to implicate the ministers in his Cabinet," he said.

Three former ministers during Dr Mahathir's administration in 2018 had said that the then prime minister had acted unilaterally on the issue.

In a joint statement, former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, former defence minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and then transport minister Anthony Loke said Dr Mahathir decided on May 21, 2018 not to pursue the claim for Batu Puteh in a written statement to the Solicitor General without referring to the Cabinet.
