Flood victims in Johor exceed 900 as new relief centre opens


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has surpassed the 900 mark, with another temporary relief centre (PPS) opened in Tangkak.

The state disaster management committee reported that as of 4pm, the number of flood victims in Segamat and Tangkak stands at 921 people from 259 families.

"At 2pm, we opened a PPS at Dewan Serbaguna Penghulu Long in Tangkak, which currently houses 46 people from 13 families.

"Those seeking shelter at the PPS come from Kampung Teluk Rimba, Kampung Parit Sialang, and Kampung Parit Dahlan near Ledang," the statement reads.

The committee also stated that in Segamat, there are currently 18 PPS in operation, providing shelter to 875 victims from 246 families.

"The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has also issued a thunderstorm and heavy rain warning for several districts in Johor.

"Among the districts are Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Baru," it added.
