KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his congratulations to national track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang for winning the gold medal in the men's keirin event at the 2026 UCI Track Cycling World Cup at the National Velodrome, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan on Saturday (April 25) night.

In a Facebook post, the Prime Minister said Malaysians were proud of the achievement attained by the cyclist, who is famously known as "The Pocket Rocketman".

"Congratulations to Datuk Azizulhasni Awang on this outstanding achievement... Malaysians are proud of this success," said the Prime Minister.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist delivered a superb performance to beat world champion Harrie Lavreysen, who finished second, while Trinidad and Tobago's Nicholas Paul settled for third place.

The victory marked Azizulhasni's second win in the World Cup series this season after also clinching the same event in Perth, Australia, last March. - Bernama
