Education Dept aiding 16 SPM candidates affected by Johor floods, says state exco

JOHOR BARU: A total of 16 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in Johor are affected by the ongoing floods, says state executive councillor Aznan Tamin.

The Johor education and information committee chairman said the candidates are from SMK Buloh Kasap in Segamat.

“The oral examination, which began today (Dec 2), does not require the candidates to sit for it simultaneously. They undergo the examination by taking turns according to their candidate number.

“As such, the state Education Department can arrange for those affected by floods to undergo the examination at different time slots,” he said when visiting SMK Tasek Utara here to review the progress of the school’s SPM examination on Monday (Dec 2).

Aznan added that the floods in Johor were still manageable currently but standard operating procedures have been put in place by the Education Department if the situation worsens.

He said a total of 43,175 candidates from 306 schools would be sitting for the 2024 SPM candidates in Johor.

The oral SPM examination started today (Dec 2) while the written examination will begin on Jan 2.

As of 12pm Monday, the number of flood evacuees in Johor stands at 840 people from 235 families in Segamat. A total of 17 temporary flood relief centres are in operation to provide shelter for the victims.
