'Daughter Of The Last Journey' wins best short film at Raintown Film Festival


TAIPING: The short film 'Daughter of the Last Journey' won the Best Short Film at the Raintown Film Festival (RFF) here on Sunday (Sept 6).

The film by Agnes Yap Jen Nie, which won a cash prize of RM8,000, was one out of 20 films of various genres, including documentaries and short films shortlisted for screening and judging at the festival.

Agnes, 33, said she did not expect to win with her first attempt at producing a short film, what more in her debut at the festival.

"This first win gives me the strength to produce more short films and documentaries after this," she said after the announcement of winners here.

The nine-minute film - about a daughter who loses her father and faces disappointment when Chinese funeral customs and traditions barred her from leading her father's funeral - was shot around Sungai Petani, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur, taking less than a week and costing about RM5,000.

Meanwhile, MayJune Tan won Best Director with her short film Oi-Jia and Adam Taufiq Suharto won Best Script for the piece Sesudah Taiping. - Bernama
