Ex-GM of statutory body, another nabbed over developer appointment

KUALA LUMPUR: A former general manager of a statutory body holding a Datukship and another man have been nabbed over alleged corruption, abuse of power and irregularities linked to the appointment of a developer for a project here.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) made the arrests in connection with the ongoing investigation into Felda mismanagement.

The two suspects, aged in their 50s and 60s, were detained at about 4pm on Sunday (Sept 6) after being called in to give their statements at the MACC headquarters.

Sources said the duo is also suspected of being involved in the sale of land belonging to the statutory body to a company with interests linked to the appointed developer, allegedly without the knowledge of the statutory body's board of directors and its subsidiary.

The two men are expected to be brought before the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court on Monday for remand.

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, when contacted, confirmed the arrests.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

Previously, Abd Halim said the MACC had opened six investigation papers on the assets bought above their market value.

Among the six identified assets that were purchased were the Grand Plaza Service Apartments in London and the construction of the Felda Wellness Corporation Sdn Bhd.

“Aside from the six that we opened, one more has been identified as a pending case that has yet to be closed. It will also be studied and reexamined by our side. So far, 12 people have had their statements recorded, including three board of directors members of the Felda Investment Corporation,” he said.
