IPOH: A 24-year-old man was killed after the car he was travelling in skidded and crashed into a road divider at KM196.3 of the North-South Expressway, between Taiping Utara and Bukit Merah.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call through the NG999 hotline at about 3.30pm on Sunday (Sept 6).
"The car had skidded and crashed into the road divider, with two men inside the vehicle.
"The 24-year-old front passenger was not trapped in the car, while a 27-year-old man, who was injured, had been extricated by members of the public before rescuers arrived," he said in a statement.
Sabarodzi said rescuers assessed the scene before carrying out rescue operations using the Saver concept.
He said the 24-year-old was removed from the vehicle using a spinal board.
"Medical personnel from the Health Ministry who arrived at the scene pronounced the man dead, and his body was handed over to the police for further action," he said.
The injured 27-year-old received initial treatment at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Taiping Hospital.
