Proactive govt that provides a healthy, safe environment for all vital, says Lam Thye

KUALA LUMPUR: A proactive government that provides a healthy, safe and protected environment for all regardless of background is vital, says Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

"Public confidence will come if there is a trust in a system, which ensures the safety and health of the community.

"A system built on trust, responsibility and transparency is very important," said the Alliance for a Safe Community chairman when contacted on Sunday (Dec 1).

It is vitally important to build a sustainable safety culture as well, Lee said.

"In order to build a sustainable safety culture, it must begin with the young people in schools.

"Schools and institutions of learning must be the starting point as through education, creating awareness as well as emphasising on responsibility and mutual respect, will we be able to build a community that is able to understand and appreciate the importance of safety and health," he added.

The issue of safety and security are issues, which are no longer the concern of a few or of some people, but it should be the concern of the entire nation at large, he added.

"Public safety encompasses various areas including safety on the streets, at public parks, housing areas and at work," he said.
