KAJANG: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's pending cases, including his appeal over the 1MDB conviction, remain unchanged, says Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman.
He said this when asked about Najib's appeal against his sentence in the 1MDB case, adding that each case was handled on an individual basis.
“We have to understand that one case differs from the other. One case's (outcome) cannot be linked to another.
“As far as we are concerned the pending cases remain the same. Status quo remains,” he said.
On Friday (Sept 18), Najib was granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, provided he pays a reduced fine of RM50mil.
The decision was made during the 64th meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board yesterday, which was chaired by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
Apart from the SRC International case, Najib still faces various jail sentences and fines in other cases as he is entangled in multiple legal battles.
Among others, he was sentenced in December 2025 on four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.28bil in 1MDB funds to 15 years in prison and fined RM11.38bil.
If he fails to pay, it could add up to 40 additional years in prison. He also faces an additional RM2.08bil asset recovery order.
That case is currently on appeal.
Najib also faces a US$1.3bil (RM5.25bil) fine after losing a civil suit in the High Court brought against him by SRC International.
He also faces six counts of criminal breach of trust involving RM6.6bil in government funds paid to International Petroleum Investment Company and a money laundering case involving RM27mil belonging to SRC International.
In addition, Najib faces an outstanding tax bill of RM1.69bil based on additional income tax assessments and penalties issued by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) for the assessment years 2011 to 2017.
