PETALING JAYA: A hostel warden has claimed trial to two charges of physically sexually assaulting an 11-year-old Year Five pupil at a primary school in Dabong, Kuala Krai, last year.

Mohd Faiz Rohizat, 34, pleaded not guilty after both charges were read out before Sessions Court Judge Zulkifli Abllah on Wednesday.

He was accused of committing the offences against the boy in a hostel warden's room at the school at about 1pm in April 2025 and 4pm in September 2025.

The first charge was framed under Section 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, while the second was brought under Section 14(d) of the same Act.

Both sections carry a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Syazalia Che Suhaimin prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Siti Fathma Nuraimi Mohamad.

Syazalia did not offer bail, citing the seriousness of the offences.

However, Siti Fathma appealed for bail, saying her client was a civil servant with a wife and a three-year-old child, as well as elderly parents to support.

She said he risked losing his job and source of income if bail was denied.

"His client needs to support his child, wife and elderly parents.

"As a civil servant, he is unlikely to abscond as Mohd Faiz has a permanent address in Bachok," she said on Thursday (Nov 5).

The court granted bail at RM10,000 with one surety, subject to additional conditions.

These included providing a permanent residential address, not interfering with the victim or prosecution witnesses, reporting to the nearest police station once every two months and surrendering his passport to the court.

The court fixed Dec 23 for mention, and Mohd Faiz paid the bail.
