DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Wednesday (Nov 4) cancelled film actress Pori Moni’s bail and issued a warrant for her arrest in a case filed in 2022 by former Uttara Club Limited president Nasir U Mahmud over allegations of assault, vandalism, attempted murder and intimidation.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman passed the order, defence lawyer Mojibur Rahman told The Daily Star.

Mojibur said Pori Moni would surrender before the court Thursday (Nov 5) and seek bail in the case.

Court sources said the case was scheduled for witness testimony Wednesday.

The prosecution filed a petition seeking cancellation of her bail, while the defence sought an adjournment, citing her inability to appear due to an allergy-related illness.

The court subsequently accepted the prosecution's plea, cancelled her bail and ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant.

On March 18, 2024, Inspector Md Monir Hossain of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Dhaka district, submitted a charge sheet against Pori Moni and her costume designer, Junaid Karim Jimmy.

The court accepted the charges against them on April 18, 2024, while discharging Fatema-tuz-Jannat Bony after the investigating officer found no evidence of her involvement in the case.

On Jan 26, 2025, the court framed charges against Pori Moni and Jimmy. Earlier, on June 14, 2021, Pori Moni filed a case with Savar Police Station against Nasir and two others, alleging that they had attempted to rape and murder her during an incident on June 9 that year. - The Daily Star/ANN
