Floods in Negri Sembilan lead to evacuation of 2,120 individuals

SEREMBAN: Continuous rain has caused floods in several parts of Negri Sembilan, forcing the evacuation of 2,120 individuals, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He reported that as of 6pm today (Nov 29), 20 temporary relief centres have been opened in four districts to accommodate the victims.

"The victims are from 578 families in Tampin, Kuala Pilah, Jempol, and Port Dickson.

"Tampin has the most centres with 11," he said.

Four centres each have also been opened in Kuala Pilah and Jempol, and one in Port Dickson.

The areas affected in Tampin include Gemas, Gemencheh, and Tampin town; Johol in Kuala Pilah; Jeram Padang, Rompin, Jelai, Serting Ulu in Jempol; and Linggi in Port Dickson.

Aminuddin noted that the water level at several rivers has breached dangerous levels due to continuous rain since late Thursday (Nov 28).

He assured that the victims would be provided with basic necessities at the relief centres.

"I have directed the district officers to closely monitor the centres to ensure the victims are comfortable.

"I would also like to remind the victims not to return to their homes until they are given the green light by the authorities," he added.
