Construction of Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 to starts 2026, says Johor exco

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 project is set to begin development in 2026 and will feature a 1,500-bed capacity, according to Johor exco Ling Tian Soon.

The Johor Health and Environment Committee Chairman stated that the hospital project will proceed under a public-private partnership model, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his Budget 2025 speech.

"Preliminary work announced last year has been completed, and the Health Ministry and Finance Ministry will collaborate with private entities to expedite the construction, which is faster than relying solely on government funding," said Ling at the Johor State Assembly.

"We expect discussions with stakeholders to begin in 2025, followed by design phases, with construction expected to start in 2026," he said.

He made these remarks to reporters at the state assembly seating at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Kota Iskandar on Sunday (Nov 29).

He added that Sultanah Aminah 2, located near Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, will feature a 1,500-bed capacity, making it the largest hospital in the state.

The project will be built on 28.33 hectares of land provided by the Defence Ministry from a 202.34-hectare site.

Earlier, Anwar unveiled that Sultanah Aminah 2 will be one of the projects developed under the Public-Private Partnership Master Plan 2030 (PIKAS 2030), aimed at bolstering the governance and management of projects through a public-private partnership framework.
