KUALA PILAH: Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has taken a light-hearted swipe at Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, suggesting he stay in his home state and let local leaders manage the campaign in Negri Sembilan.
Speaking after a campaign event in Kuala Pilah on Saturday (July 25), the Umno president cautioned that while Sanusi's aggressive rhetoric might work in Kedah, raising issues touching on race, religion, and culture risks stirring tension in a multi-ethnic society.
"I do not intend to advise him, only to remind him. Even if there is a tiger inside him, at the appropriate time, he should let the goat come out instead," Zahid told reporters.
Zahid stressed that efforts to promote Muslim unity do not require attacking the backgrounds, cultures, or ethnicities of other communities.
"I believe in the diversity of Malaysians. If they truly want to build friendships, do it the proper way instead of bringing up sensitive issues," he said.
Zahid added that with six days remaining before polling day on Aug 1, Sanusi would be better off focusing on governing Kedah.
"Let us manage Negri Sembilan in our own way," he said, calling on all political leaders to maintain decorum and focus on policy solutions rather than personal attacks or divisive rhetoric.
