PETALING JAYA: Two local men in their 50s were arrested following a high-speed police chase that stretched from Sri Damansara to Gombak late Friday night (July 24).
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said police were alerted at around 11.57pm when a patrol car gave chase to a vehicle that refused to pull over for an inspection along Persiaran Dagang, Sri Damansara.
"The suspect drove dangerously through several areas before officers tracked the vehicle down to Jalan Sungai Pusu, Gombak," ACP Shamsudin said in a statement on Saturday (July 25).
As officers moved in to make the arrest, the driver became aggressive, reversing into a police cruiser before speeding off again and crashing into two parked cars along the roadside.
Police subsequently detained the driver and his male passenger. Background checks revealed both men have prior criminal records for various offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions, and Section 279 for reckless driving.
ACP Shamsudin urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or speculating on social media.
Witnesses or those with information regarding the incident are urged to contact the Petaling Jaya district police operations room at 03-79662222 or report to the nearest police station.
