New Village Expo in Ipoh sees a plethora of local products on display

IPOH: A New Village Expo is currently underway at the Ipoh Town Hall.

The three-day expo, running until Sunday (Nov 24), features products and services from 12 Chinese new villages in the northern region of the country.

These include wayang kulit from Kampung Kasar in Terengganu, traditional snacks from Kampung Sungai Pinang Pangkor, and mee suah from Kampung China Sitiawan.

Housing and Local Government Chinese New Village division chairman Khoo Poay Tiong stated that the expo aims to promote the new villages and their offerings.

"Every new village has a unique product that can attract tourists.

"We hope this initiative will help develop the new villages and open new markets for their products," he said during his speech at the expo on Friday (Nov 22).

"By showcasing the best of these villages, we are not only creating job opportunities but also positioning these villages as potential tourist attractions both domestically and globally," he added.

Khoo mentioned that the expo will be held in the southern region next year, followed by Kuala Lumpur in 2026.

He also called for cooperation among all parties, including village leaders, to ensure the success of this initiative.
