Eight people in MPV die in collision with 4WD in Sibu


SIBU: Eight people were killed when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle on Jalan Sarikei-Sibu.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in a statement on Thursday (Nov 21), said the dead comprised seven Indonesians and a Malaysian, all men.

Two people who were in the 4WD vehicle sustained light injuries.

It said the Sarikei fire station received a distress call at about 3.40pm.

"Arriving at the scene about 20 minutes later, firemen saw eight victims from the mangled vehicles," the department said.

It added that two victims were thrown out of the MPV and all of them were pronounced dead by medical officers from Hospital Sarikei.
