Monkey attack viral video prompts calls for Perhilitan to act

PETALING JAYA: Social media users have expressed concern following a viral video showing a woman escaping a monkey attack while cradling a baby.

Many have asked the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) to take note of the encounter and take action to curb the monkey menace.

In the nine-second clip posted on X by #Updateinfo on Tuesday (Nov 19), the woman is seen running onto a car porch and looking anxiously behind her.

Moments before she manages to close the grille door after her, a monkey launches itself at the door.

However, there is no indication of the location or date of the incident.

As at 2pm on Wednesday (Nov 20), the clip has been viewed over 278,000 times and shared 1,500 times.

"If I see a monkey from afar, I would go into my home. Don't wait for it to react fiercely," said Ambisi Materi.

"It's lucky that the door is already open, the animal was running so fast. It's so dangerous," said a user with the handle Cdah1945.

Ahmad Farid Abdul, who goes by the handle Pemburu Kejahilan, said monkeys had become pests.

"It's time that their population is being controlled by whatever method there is," he wrote.

"Perhilitan take note... the safety of the community," wrote a user who goes by fie.

In October, a 10-year-old girl in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, sustained injuries to her leg after she was attacked by a monkey in the compound of her house in Taman Warisan Puteri.

During the 4.20pm incident on Oct 13, the girl had been helping her mother hang the laundry when a monkey suddenly attacked her.
