Motorcyclist loses leg, hit by car that ran red light

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a male car driver for allegedly running a red light and ramming into two motorcyclists on Jalan Sultan Ismail here.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department head Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 25-year-old driver was arrested at 1pm on Thursday (April 2) while receiving treatment at a clinic in Kundang, Rawang.

He said the accident occurred at 4.27am on Thursday at the Jalan Sultan Ismail traffic light intersection.

"Both male motorcyclists, aged 19 and 24, were crossing the intersection after the traffic light had turned green when a car crashed into them.

"Both motorcyclists suffered severe injuries and were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. "The 24-year-old's left leg was severed, while the 19-year-old sustained fractures to his left arm and left leg," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Mohd Zamzuri said the suspect was not driving under the influence of alcohol and a drug test is being carried out at the Dang Wangi headquarters.

"The driver sustained minor hand injuries, while a passenger in the car suffered head injuries," he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged those who have information on the accident to contact the Tun HS Lee police station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearest police station. – Bernama
