Two killed, five hurt in Hulu Perak road accident


IPOH: Two people were killed and five others injured in an accident involving two vehicles near a popular restaurant in Lenggong, Hulu Perak.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad the two victims, identified as Zuraida Abu Bakar, 47, and Melvindar Singh Gamum Singh, 41, died on the spot during the incident on Thursday (June 25) at about 4.50pm.

"The accident involved a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) and a sedan," said Sabarodzi in a statement.

"There were victims who were trapped in both vehicles," he said, adding that Zuraida was a passenger in the backseat of the MPV while Melvindar drove the sedan.

"The bodies of the deceased and those who were injured have been handed over to the police and Health Ministry personnel, respectively, for the next course of action," he added.

According to Gerik deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Muhammad Firdaus Abdullah, the incident occurred at KM30 of Jalan Kuala Kangsar-Gerik.

He said the police received a report about the incident at about 5pm.

"The four who were injured were referred to the Lenggong Health Clinic," he said, adding that Melvindar was a prosecuting officer from the Pengkalan Hulu district police.
