PETALING JAYA: The guidelines for the work-from-home (WFH) policy will be announced soon by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, says Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
The Human Resources Minister said the government is in the final stages of finalising the WFH policy that will cover the public sector and government-linked companies (GLCs).
"It will be done in stages. For now, areas that might be involved are the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor and Kuching," he said after launching the "Dialogue and Sharing Programme: Workers as the Nation's Pride" at a hotel in Ara Damansara on Thursday (April 2).
He also said many multinational companies, large companies and banking institutions have already adopted remote working arrangements.
On April 1, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that a WFH directive for government ministries, agencies, statutory bodies and GLCs will take effect from April 15 as the government moves to cushion the impact of the global energy crisis.
On the event, Ramanan said it serves as a strategic platform to strengthen relations between the government, employers and workers, while building momentum towards the national Labour Day celebration on May 1 at Unifi Arena in Bukit Jalil.
Ramanan added that the programme would be rolled out nationwide, including Sungai Buloh in Selangor, Ipoh in Perak, Batu Pahat (Johor), Kuala Terengganu (Terengganu) and Kota Samarahan (Sarawak).
"This is our mission to educate and spread awareness to workers and employers so that they are better protected," he added.
