SUNGAI PETANI: A person with disabilities (OKU) riding a motorcycle has been killed in a collision with a lorry at Jalan Permatang Gedong, near here, on Wednesday (April 1) night.

The victim, Muhammad Asri Mohd Nazri, 32, who was riding his younger brother's motorcycle, held an OKU card.

Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan said its traffic investigation and enforcement division received information about the accident at about 9pm.

"Investigations found that the accident occurred at around 8.30pm, with the lorry heading from Taman Sejati to the company where he works.

"While turning right, the motorcyclist, approaching from the opposite direction, collided into the left side of the lorry," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 2).

He said the victim fell and was taken to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital before being confirmed dead at 6.45am on Thursday.

"The 53-year-old lorry driver tested positive for ganja… we will seek a remand order against him on Friday," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
