Sandra Lim ends Malaysia's 53-year drought at Miss Universe competition

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s beauty queen, Sandra Lim, has made it to the top 30 in the Miss Universe competition held in Mexico earlier Sunday.

Kosmo reported that Sandra, whose full name is Sandra Lim Shue Hui, 24, is the second Malaysian representative in history to make it to this stage.

The first and last time Malaysia made it to the top was in 1970, represented by Josephine Lena Wong.

Sandra delivered a stunning performance during the preliminary round (prelims) held last Friday, where she donned a national costume.

Her performance in the national costume segment, featuring the "Walinong Sari" attire, as well as the swimsuit segment, was circulated worldwide on social media.

“Malaysia’s name was heard in Mexico. Congratulations, Sandra. You’ve finally ended the 53-year “drought” in Miss Universe. Malaysia boleh!” commented a netizen.

A total of 130 countries participated in the Miss Universe 2024 competition, making it the largest participation in the history of the event.

Denmark’s representative, Victoria Kjaer, was crowned Miss Universe 2024. The second place was claimed by Nigeria, third by Mexico, fourth by Thailand, and fifth by Venezuela.
