Two men paid RM5,000 to smuggle nearly RM2mil worth of drugs from Peninsula to Miri arrested

KUCHING: Two men who received RM5,000 to smuggle nearly 22 kilograms (kg) of drugs from Peninsular Malaysia into the state were arrested at the arrival hall outside Miri Airport two days ago.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the local suspects, aged 36 and 42, were apprehended in an operation by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters.

He said that the two suspects were found carrying 10.83kg of eramin 5 pills, 4.1kg of ecstasy pills, and 7kg of methamphetamine, with an estimated value of RM1,991,700.

Mancha explained that investigations revealed the drug supply was sourced from Peninsular Malaysia before being brought into Miri via the airport, with the suspects receiving RM5,000 as payment.

"Initial urine tests on both suspects came back positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and benzo drugs," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 8).

Both suspects are currently remanded until Wednesday, (Nov 13), and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - Bernama
