Daim’s wife files police report over Bloomberg article

PETALING JAYA: The wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, has lodged a police report accusing top government authorities of alleged misconduct.

“I am here today representing my husband. He is unable to travel to the police station to lodge this report himself due to his physical condition,” she said.

Na’imah, who was accompanied by her lawyers Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetaj Singh Sohanpal, was speaking to reporters after filing the report at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters on Monday (Sept 30).

The police report by Na'imah comes following a Bloomberg article, citing unnamed sources, alleging that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) received orders to probe Daim, ex-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and his sons.

This directive was reportedly issued by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, an assertion that has been refuted by the Prime Minister's Office.

“The Prime Minister’s Office affirms that the Prime Minister has never issued directives or interfered in investigations conducted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. The MACC operates as an independent body, acting on the basis of complaints received," Bloomberg quoted the PMO.

"I didn’t take instructions from anyone regarding my investigations," MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told The Star when contacted on Thursday (Sept 26).

Earlier this year, Daim was charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 for failing to comply with an asset declaration notice.

Na’imah was also accused under the same Section for not declaring her ownership of several companies, land plots, and two vehicles.
