Storm damages over 100 houses in Mantin

PETALING JAYA: At least 100 houses in Mantin, Negri Sembilan were damaged in a storm that hit at around 5pm on Monday (Sept 23).

Most of the damage was to roofs, with at least 20 fallen trees also reported.

Nilai assemblyman J. Arul Kumar said the affected neighbourhoods included Taman Sri Damar, Taman Desa Mantin, Kampung Baru Mantin, Taman Andalas and Pekan Mantin.

"The worst-hit area was Taman Desa Mantin, with more than 50 houses damaged," he told Sinar Harian on Tuesday (Sept 24).

"This is probably the worst (damage) caused by a storm in the past 15 years.

"But we are thankful no one was injured.

"Only one car was damaged by a fallen tree. One house had half its roof blown off," he said.

Arul added that immediate repair works have begun, with five contractors appointed.

"We will try to complete the roof repair work today because we cannot wait, especially with the current uncertain weather conditions," he told the daily.
