Education Ministry investigating if any SOP breached in Pahang student's drowning


SHAH ALAM: The Education Ministry is conducting an investigation into the tragic drowning of a student in Pantai Balok, Pahang.

Its minister Fadhlina Sidek said the investigation would examine if there was any breach of standard operating procedure (SOP) involving the activities or involvement of the students in question.

"The authorities are already conducting an investigation. The Ministry will also conduct an internal investigation process to examine compliance with each relevant SOP," she said in a statement on Saturday (April 18), reported Sinar Harian.

According to reports, the Pahang Education Department confirmed that a student went missing during an outing several others at Balok Beach, Pahang on Friday (April 17) evening.

The students had allegedly left the dormitory without the school's knowledge and the outing was not an official program organised by the school.

Fadhlina also said that the ministry's priority at this time was to ensure the victim's family received any needed assistance.

The ministry also extended condolences to the deceased's family.
