PETALING JAYA: A single father has chosen not to accept any donations from the public following a viral video showing the hardships he experienced after his motorcycle broke down in Kuala Lumpur, which recently went viral on social media.
According to Sinar Harian, the man known as Dicky Yau was also touched by the community's concern, who came forward to offer help after seeing the situation he was facing.
"I would like to thank everyone who has sent private messages to offer help; however, I can't accept any donations from anyone.
"If there is a fake account asking for donations in my name, that is not true. Thank you all for your concern," he said in a post on TikTok on Saturday (April 18).
Yau announced that his motorcycle has now been repaired after receiving help from the owner of the Facebook account 'Original Black Oil'.
He further explained that donations received will be given to the mechanics involved, who are known for their efforts to help many motorcyclists who are stranded due to vehicle breakdowns, especially in the middle of the night.
"Next week I will look for that brother (mechanic), I will give these TikTok live gifts to that brother so he can help others," he said.
Earlier, through the 'Original Street Black Oil' partnership, he initially received a call from Dicky at around 12.30 midnight asking for help repairing a motorcycle.
He said the cost of repairing spare parts, namely the chain and sprocket, as well as wages, was worth RM145.
"I just got to him, chatted while he borrowed money from his friend first... then I finished work, he wanted to pay me, I looked at his cellphone, he had just enough for himself.
"In my heart, maybe he really needed it, so I used the infaq (charity) money for him. When he hugged me, you guys, I was really touched.
"Every human being has their own suspicions and stories. I hope this brother is strong and enthusiastic," he said.
Previously, the viral video had sparked various reactions from netizens, receiving 6.9 million views with over 394,000 likes and 30,600 comments.
