Selangor police probing video allegedly defaming Mais

PETALING JAYA: Police investigations have started following a social media video that allegedly defamed the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais).

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said that a police report against the video was lodged on April 16.

"The complainant claimed that the video was defamatory as it contained allegations of corrupt practices and the use of royal immunity, which appeared to have purposely damaged both Mais and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).

"Following the lodged report, a comprehensive police investigation has been opened. The investigations are being conducted under Section 500/504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"The public is urged to give room to the police to conduct a fair investigation and not speculate and publish comments that could disrupt public harmony and unity," he said in a statement on Saturday (April 18).
