National Archives urged to enrich Malaysia’s historical records

KUCHING: The vast trove of information stored by the National Archives of Malaysia can significantly enrich the nation’s historical records, says National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

Historians have not fully utilised these valuable records, leading to concerns about gaps in Malaysia’s historical documentation.

"We need the National Archives to take a more proactive role. They possess a wealth of information that must be shared with the public,” he told reporters after attending a programme commemorating Statesman Tun Datuk Patinggi Temenggong Jugah Anak Barieng here Monday (Sept 9).

Aaron said the ministry will host the Malaysian History Convention on Sept 19 as part of efforts to ensure a more comprehensive historical narrative. The convention aims to bring together historical records and insights from various sources nationwide.

"This convention will also serve as a platform for stakeholders to review and enhance the historical facts that have already been recorded.

"There may be gaps in how history is taught in schools, with some details being overlooked. We hope this convention will help us align with the extensive data preserved by the National Archives of Malaysia,” he added. – Bernama
