The illustrated biography Sepanjang Riwayatku P. Ramlee, which compiles photographs of artefacts and archival materials related to national icon Tan Sri P. Ramlee (1929-1973), has been refreshed in its fifth edition, published by the National Archives of Malaysia.

National Archives Statesmen Archives Division director Hanizah Jonoh said the republication honours and commemorates P. Ramlee’s contributions to the country’s arts scene.

She noted that much of the book, presented as a catalogue, features materials preserved by the National Archives, including collections at the P. Ramlee Memorial Library in Setapak in Kuala Lumpur - the filmmaker’s final residence, now an exhibition centre.

“For this fifth edition, the number of pages will increase from 80 to 104, with additional photographs and an updated layout. The photographs are part of the National Archives’ collection, and we will also enhance their quality using artificial intelligence (AI) technology so they appear clearer and more appealing,” she said.

Hanizah added that the book - in Bahasa Malaysia language - includes documents related to the artiste’s life, such as his death certificate, alongside other archival items.

“The book will also showcase various film posters and highlight several of the late artiste’s acting works, including Penarik Beca.

"It will be complemented by a (portrait) work by artist Stephen Menon that interprets P. Ramlee visually,” she said, noting that the new edition is expected to be available in April. - Bernama
