Pillion rider killed in accident in Johor

JOHOR BARU: A woman pillion rider was killed while her husband suffered serious injury after their motorcycle was run over by a car at KM2.5 Jalan Skudai, Pantai Lido, here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 9.55am on Saturday (Sept 7) when the victims, both in their 30’s, were heading towards the city centre.

“The incident happened when a car, driven by a man in his 20s, was driving in the right lane and was heading straight.

“The vehicle then accidentally hit the motorcycle that was changing lanes from the left to the right, trying to get into the Jalan Lingkaran Dalam intersection.

“The vehicle hit the motorcycle on the right side and caused the pillion rider and the rider to fall on the road. The driver then failed to evade the motorcyclists and ran them over,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (Sept 7).

ACP Raub added that the woman suffered serious injury on the head and was pronounced dead at the location, while the man suffered a broken right leg, face injury, and right arm.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
