Teenager among seven nabbed for illegal bike racing in JB


JOHOR BARU: Seven individuals, including a 14-year-old, have been arrested by police for street racing during a state-wide operation.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said that the operation, dubbed Ops Khas Samseng Jalanan, was conducted from Saturday (Aug 17) to Sunday (Aug 18).

He added that the operation involved 14 senior police officers and 84 policemen from the its traffic investigation and enforcement department.

"This is part of our intensified operations against street thugs across the state, which is a significant step towards ensuring road safety and upholding the law.

"This ongoing operation aims to identify and take decisive action against those who continue to flout traffic regulations.

"A special operation targeting these offenders was conducted simultaneously in all districts of Johor over the weekend, which led to the arrest of seven locals aged from 14 to 21.

"The arrests were made under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, for reckless and dangerous driving," he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Aug 20).

Comm Kumar added that five motorcycles involved in the offences were also seized.

He added that during the operation, police inspected 902 individuals and 820 vehicles and issued 660 summonses for various offences.

"A total of 120 motorcycles were seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act.

"We urge parents and guardians to closely monitor their children's activities to prevent them from engaging in dangerous street thug behaviour, which can have fatal consequences," he said.
