Viral video of capsized boat not from Malaysia, says police

IPOH: Police in Manjung have confirmed that a viral video showing a capsized boat with tourists onboard is not from Malaysia.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said the police received incorrect information on Friday (Aug 16) at about 9am in relation to the incident said to have occurred in Pangkor Island.

He said the video had gone viral on social media, and on the WhatsApp application.

“However investigations revealed that the incident did not occur in Pangkor Island, but happened abroad.

“The public is advised not to spread false information, and avoid speculation to the extent of disturbing public peace,” he added.
