Siblings killed after lorry crashes into house

PEKAN: Two siblings were killed when a lorry veered off course and crashed into their house.

Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the lorry, carrying plaster ceilings, was being driven from Johor towards Kuantan when the driver lost control while navigating a left turn at KM5 of Jalan Pekan-Nenasi-Rompin.

The lorry then veered into the opposite lane and crashed into a house on the right side of the road in the 4.15am incident yesterday.

Nurnazatul Fasiha Nasruddin, 32, was killed at the scene while her brother Mohd Waldon Faris Nasruddin, 21, died at Hospital Pekan at 1.30pm yesterday.

Supt Mohd Zaidi said three other occupants of the house in Kg Ketapang Hilir suffered injuries and were taken to Hospital Pekan for treatment.

“Investigations indicate that the accident was caused by the lorry driver, who was negligent while driving, leading to loss of control and the ensuing accident,” he added.

Supt Mohd Zaidi said the 40-year-old driver had also tested positive for methamphetamine.

“The lorry driver will be detained for remand on Aug 4 as soon as he is treated for his injuries. A urine test will be conducted by the Pekan narcotics crime investigation division,” he said.
