Malaysia must act to boost tech capabilities, cybersecurity, says Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia needs to move faster in strengthening local technological capabilities to ensure its digital infrastructure remains secure and resilient, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the step was crucial amid the rapid pace of technological development, which demands readiness to face an increasingly complex and challenging cyber threat landscape.

"The rapid advancement of technology, including next-generation artificial intelligence, requires Malaysia to move faster in strengthening local technological capabilities, safeguarding data and ensuring its digital infrastructure remains secure and resilient,” he said after attending the National Cyber Security Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Monday (June 29).

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, added that the government would continue to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity ecosystem to ensure Malaysia remains competitive and reliable in the digital era.

"I believe that cyber security today is no longer just a technology issue, but also involves national security, public confidence and the future of Malaysia’s digital economy.

"Therefore, we must always be ready to face every challenge that arises,” he said. – Bernama
