Remand of four suspects in Albertine's abduction won't be extended, say cops

JOHOR BARU: The remand order on the four suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Albertine Leo Jia Hui will not be extended.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan (pic) said the remand order ends Friday (July 26).

At the time of writing, however, it was unclear if the four had been released yet.

On Thursday (July 25), Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said four of the suspects may be released on police bail once their remand period ends.

"We may release them... if they are no longer needed to assist in the investigation.

“However, it all depends on the progress of the investigation. Meanwhile, the remand period of the 31-year-old suspect who was found with the victim in Batang Kali will end on Tuesday (July 29),” he said.

Albertine went missing during a Bon Odori event, where her 37-year-old mother operated a booth, at a mall in Iskandar Puteri on Saturday (July 20) evening.

Two days later, four suspects – two men and two women, aged between 28 and 55 – were arrested to assist investigations.

Follow-up probes led police to the girl, who was found with a man at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, in a 4.30am raid on Tuesday.

The child was then reunited with her family after undergoing checks at a hospital.
