Man gets 37 years in jail, 23 strokes of rotan for robbery, rape


SIBU: A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to 37 years in prison and 23 strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court in Sarikei for robbing and raping a woman.

The accused Rosli Mudin, pleaded guilty with four charges under Section 376(2)(b) of the Penal Code, Section 392/397, Section 448 and Section 506 of the same Code.

The prison sentence against the accused takes effect from the date he was charged in court on July 24, 2024.

Sarikei OCPD, Supt Aswandy Anis in a statement on Thursday (July 25) said, based on the facts of the case, the accused robbed and raped the victim on July 1 at a place in Sungai Baron.

He added that the accused had robbed the victim of her mobile phone and handbag.

Police launched an operation to track down the accused and successfully arrested him at a hotel in Sibu on July 2.
