PETALING JAYA: A landmark move by three media powerhouses in Asia is expected to drive the adoption of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles by delivering content that informs, inspires and empowers audiences.

Star Media Group (SMG), Media Group of Kompas Gramedia (KG Media) and the Inquirer Group of Companies are on a mission to inculcate ESG principles in the mainstream media to ensure public accountability and transparency in a bid to facilitate the region’s green economic growth.

To do this, the three influential media partners will launch the Asia ESG Positive Impact Consortium (A-EPIC) – the first of its kind in the region today.

This cross-border alliance aims to collectively impact 123 million people across the region.

SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt said the consortium is expecting more media houses across Asia to join the alliance’s mission in igniting change and making an impact for a sustainable future.

“We envision a sustainable Asia where media collaborations promote progressive environmental, socio-economic and governance commitments for future prosperity across the region,” he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will launch A-EPIC at the Sime Darby Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad will be joining Anwar at the launch along with other policymakers and representatives from the consortium’s esteemed regional media partners.

They include KG Media chief executive officer Andy Budiman and Philippine Daily Inquirer president and chief executive officer Rudyard Arbolado.

Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia Datuk Indera Hermono and Philippine ambassador to Malaysia Maria Angela Abrera Ponce as well as other ambassadors and diplomats from across Asia are expected to attend.

Budiman believes that A-EPIC opens up more opportunities to collaborate for greater impact.

“This alliance with top media powerhouses across Asia positions KG Media as catalysts for positive socio-economic development, propelling the region towards a sustainable future.”

Arbolado said the strategic alliance reflects the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s core values and commitment to positive change.

It also underscores the Inquirer Group’s unwavering commitment to fostering sustainable development and social responsibility.

“A-EPIC is not just an acknowledgement of their past advocacies but a pledge to amplify collective impact through collaborative and innovative approaches.”
