PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) received four reports on Thursday (July 30) concerning allegations of cash handouts during the Negri Sembilan state election campaign.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said two reports involved candidates, while the other two involved early voters.
"The complaints received are related to the alleged distribution of cash.
"We have instructed that investigation papers be opened to determine whether there are elements of corruption or election offences," he told a press conference here on Friday (July 31).
He declined to reveal the identities of those involved, saying doing so could compromise ongoing investigations.
"It is too early for us to disclose their identities. At this stage, it is sufficient to say that two reports involve candidates and two involve early voters," he said.
The press conference was held following a joint briefing with Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban on Ops Crack, an operation targeting a syndicate accused of hacking the MyIMMs system to facilitate the illegal approval of Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS).
The state election will take place on Saturday (Aug 1).
