PETALING JAYA: A family portrait may not be uncommon but to single mother Antoniammal Savarimuthu, it’s an extraordinary gesture of love from her family and testimony to her love and dedication as a parent.

Captured within the frame are Antoniammal Savarimuthu’s three children, their spouses and her 10 grandchildren.

To the 77-year-old, it’s more than a picture but the realisation of a long-held wish.

And as a breast cancer survivor who has been dedicating her life to her family after she was widowed at age 40, this moment holds immeasurable significance.

Her daughter Roslin, 56, shared that her mother has always put their needs above her own.

“Despite the challenges she faced, she never wavered in her love and support for us.

“So for this Mothers Day, we wanted to give her something truly meaningful,” said the housewife.

Her sons, Raja, 51, and Thavaraj, 55, organised the surprise photo session at Taman Jepun in Ipoh, Perak.

“We knew how much this meant to our mother. It’s a way for us to show her how grateful we are for everything she has done for us as a single mother,” said Raja, a truck driver.

The theme of the photoshoot, black and white, was chosen to symbolise the timeless bond of family.

Thavaraj reflected said that growing up, their mother was the pillar of strength in their family.

“She not only took care of us but also instilled in us the values of love, compassion and resilience.

“As she ages, we’ve noticed her memory fading at times, but her spirit remains unwavering.

“This moment, captured in the family portrait, is something I hope she will always cherish,” he said.

As Antoniammal was surrounded by her children and grandchildren, her eyes sparkled with tears of joy.

“I never imagined I would see this day. I have never asked anything from my kids because I know they are also dealing with financial difficulties, but deep down, I have always wished for this.

“To have my entire family together in one frame is a dream come true for me,” said Antoniammal, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and overcame it after five years.

Through their thoughtful gestures, Antoniammal’s children have not only fulfilled her wish but have also immortalised her legacy of love and selflessness ahead of Mothers Day this Sunday.

“Our mother may not have asked for much, but seeing her happiness today is all the reward we need.

“This portrait will serve as a timeless reminder of her love and our gratitude,” said Roslin.
