KKB Polls: Indian voters will make the difference, says Hulu S'gor MP

HULU SELANGOR: Indian voters will make the difference in the coming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, says Hulu Selangor MP Hasnizan Harun.

Hasnizan, who is also the PAS commissioner here, described Indian voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu as “special”.

He said discussions held by Perikatan Nasional towards determining its candidate for the seat found that regardless of the race of the candidate, the Indian voters would remain the deciding factor.

“Indian voters are ‘special’. Even if it’s a Malay or Chinese candidate, the Indian voters will be the decider,” he told reporters at Kerling here on Sunday (May 5).

Hasnizan had also targeted as much as 40% support from the Indian community here towards Perikatan’s Khairul Azhari Saut.

“The community’s support for Perikatan is very different this time,” he said, adding that the coalition received a very positive reception when compared to the 15th General Election (GE15).

The Indian community in Kuala Kubu Baharu makes up for about 18% of the electoral roll.

The Malay community makes up 46.36% followed by the Chinese community (30.65%) and Others (4.98%).

Perikatan’s Khairul Azhari is in a four-cornered fight for the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat.

He is up against Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainudin and Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

Polling day is set for May 11, with early voting on May 7.
