'Mickey' acid attack: Suspect remanded two days, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: A man detained for the acid attack on national winger Faisal Halim has been remanded for two days, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said the suspect, in his 20s, was traced based on a motorcycle registration number identified during the attack.

"He was detained to assist in the investigation into the attack.

'He has been remanded for two days," he said on the sidelines of the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (NatSec) Asia 2024 on Monday (May 6).

For the time being, the IGP urged the public to allow the police to investigate and uncover the motive behind the incident.

"We also cannot confirm whether the attack on Faisal has anything to do with the attack on another football player Akhyar Rashid, who was attacked and robbed in Kuala Terengganu last week.

"We hope no one will speculate on the incident.

"Selangor police have already recorded the statements of three individuals, including Faisal and we will call up other witnesses," he said.

Razarudin also denied the attack on both footballers was connected to football bookies.

"We urge the public not to make up stories as it can jeopardise investigations.

"Give us space and time to investigate the case thoroughly," he said.
