National footballer 'Mickey' in stable condition after acid attack, say cops


PETALING JAYA: National winger Faisal Halim is being treated at a private hospital here following the acid attack.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the football player was in stable condition.

"We received information from the public at 5.51pm that a national footballer was splashed with liquid believed to be acid when he was at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara," he said in a statement on Sunday (May 5).

Comm Hussein urged those with information to contact the Petaling Jaya police operations room at 03-79662222.

On her X (formerly Twitter) account Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh condemned the attack.

“I strongly condemn the attack of violence towards our athletes. No violence in sports.

“I urge @PDRMsia (the police) to take immediate action towards the suspect,” she said.

It was reported that Faisal, who is also known as Mickey, suffered an acid attack just hours ago on Sunday at a go-kart circuit in Klang Valley.

A source close to Faisal confirmed the incident.

"He was at a go-kart circuit in Klang Valley when the incident happened. We are not sure where the place was but we know he was attacked by some men, who poured acid on him.

"We are on the way to check on him," said the source.

The reason behind the attack is also uncertain.

Images of his injury are going viral on social media and many netizens are in shock that such an incident happened to a national football player.
