Form Four student among 16 motorcyclists detained for dangerous stunts in Melaka


MELAKA: Sixteen motorcyclists, including a Form Four student, were detained during an Op Khas Bersepadu Motosikal at Jalan Paya Luboh, Tangga Batu early on Sunday morning (April 5).

Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Muhammad Zaki Ramat said those apprehended were performing dangerous stunts during the operation held from 2am to 5am.

He said the stunts included speeding, zig-zagging and weaving through traffic.

"All 16 local men, aged between 16 and 30, are being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding," he said in a statement.

He added that during the operation, 178 vehicles were checked, resulting in 87 motorcycles being impounded for further investigation and action.

A total of 237 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.

Illegal registration numbers were the most common offence with 53 cases, followed by side mirrors with 31 cases and exhausts with 25 cases.

Other offences included 22 for accessories and 20 for riding without a licence.

Muhammad Zaki added that Melaka JPJ also issued 274 P22 notices.

He said there were 21 actions under Section 59(2) and 21 inspection orders under Section 61 of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
